Privacy
Last updated October 7, 2026.
The short version
- Your garden data stays in your browser. We don't collect it and can't see it.
- There are no accounts, no ads, and no selling of anything about you.
- To show the weather, the approximate location of your ZIP code is sent to the National Weather Service.
- Product links go to Amazon, which has its own privacy policy.
- We count visits with privacy-friendly analytics that doesn't use cookies or identify you.
What stays on your device
Your ZIP code, settings, plots, plantings, to-dos, harvests, seeds, journal notes, and photos are saved in your browser's storage on this device. They aren't sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them, so download a backup from Settings now and then.
When you use Planting Year over the web, a copy of the site's own files is saved on your device so it works offline.
What's sent, and to whom
Weather. To show your forecast, the latitude and longitude of your ZIP code's area (not your exact location) is sent to the National Weather Service (weather.gov), a US government agency. Nothing else about you or your garden is sent.
ZIP codes are looked up in files that are part of the site, on your device.
Affiliate and other links
Some product links are affiliate links to Amazon. When you follow one, Amazon may use cookies to know the visit came from Planting Year, so we can earn a commission if you buy. What Amazon collects is covered by Amazon's privacy notice. Photo credits link to the sites the photos came from, which have their own policies.
Analytics
We count page visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, to learn what's helpful. It doesn't set cookies, doesn't collect personal information, and doesn't follow you across other sites. We only see totals, like how many people read a guide.
Children
Planting Year doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes and questions
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. If we ever add accounts, we'll explain what they store before you sign up. Questions? Email us or see the Contact page.
