About Planting Year
What it is
Planting Year is a free garden planner from AG Industry. Enter a US ZIP code to get planting and harvest dates for 157 plants, lay out your beds on a map of your yard, keep a log of what you plant and harvest, identify pests and diseases, and learn with step-by-step projects.
It works in any browser, without an account, and it can be installed on a phone or computer to use offline.
Where the dates come from
Frost dates come from NOAA's 1991–2020 climate normals for the weather station nearest your ZIP code, or USDA hardiness zone averages where there is no station nearby. Planting times are counted from those dates, using common US gardening guidance for each plant.
They're estimates: real weather varies from year to year. Your county extension office knows your area best.
Your garden stays yours
Your plans, plantings, harvests, notes, and photos are saved in your own browser. We don't have an account system, and we never see them. Download a backup from Settings to keep a copy or move to another device. Privacy details.
How it's paid for
Planting Year is free. Some links to products are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Planting Year earns from qualifying purchases.
We only suggest things that help with what you're doing, and a product link never changes our advice.
Photos and illustrations
Plant and pest photos are public domain, from photographers who released them under CC0 and from US government agencies. Each photo names who took it. The project illustrations are drawn for Planting Year.
