When to plant

  • Sow seeds outdoors about 2 weeks after your average last spring frost.
  • It can also be grown as a fall crop, timed back from your first fall frost.
  • Ready to harvest about 80 days after planting.

Flowers on its own schedule, about 10–12 weeks from seed, whatever the day length. Sow straight into its final pot or spot: autos stunt if transplanted. A second crop can go in by midsummer. Harvest when most pistils have darkened; dry slowly for 7–10 days. Estimate is dried flower.

Frost dates depend on where you live. Enter your ZIP code to get exact dates.
