How to spot it
Clean, slanted cuts on stems and leaves near the ground, and small round droppings.
What it does
They nibble seedlings to the ground and eat young greens, beans, and peas.
What to do now
- Spray repellents and renew them after rain.
- Live-trap and move them where that's legal.
Keep it away next time
- A 2-foot chicken wire fence with 1-inch holes, the bottom buried 6 inches.
- Row cover or wire cages over seedlings.
