How to spot it

Leaves mottled light and dark green or yellow like a mosaic, often puckered, curled, or narrow. Plants are stunted, and fruit can be bumpy or streaked.

What it does

There's no cure, and harvests fall.

What to do now

  • Pull and throw away infected plants.
  • Wash your hands and tools before touching healthy plants.

Keep it away next time

  • Control aphids, which spread cucumber mosaic, with row cover and reflective mulch.
  • Grow resistant varieties (look for "CMV," "TMV," or "BCMV").
  • Wash your hands after handling tobacco before working with tomatoes and peppers.

Plants it affects

Not sure? Your county extension office can identify it from a photo or sample, often for free.
